How to set up your Big Social page

 

  1. Give your page a name and customize your page’s URL

 

The name you give your page will also become the custom web address for your page. You can change the URL if you want to make.

        

 

  1. Set your fundraising goal

 

Next, set your fundraising goal. This is the amount of money you want to raise with your meal. Note: You can change your goal at any time.

 

We’ve given some suggested goals based on the impact of your fundraising. For example, if you raised $500, you would be helping to provide healthy meals for 60 people for one week.

 

 

  1. Name your event

        

Now you need to give your event a name. You can give it the same name as your page.

 

Important note: This is where you should add the date of your event. If you don’t add the date here, it won’t appear on your page. Just as you can change the goal, you can change the date at any time.

 

 

  1. Customize the text on your event page (optional)

 

You can edit the text that will show up on your page. We’ve provided some suggested copy you can use about what the event is and what the impact is.

 

You can change everything from the words themselves to font, color, etc. Just click on the toolbar and make formatting changes just as you would in any text editor.

 

When you’re ready, click create page. That’s it. You’ve created your Big Social page.

 

 

 

How to customize your page

 

On your Big Social page, you can change:

 

  • Profile picture
  • Banner image
  • Event title
  • Page text
  • Fundraising goal

 

Profile picture

 

To change your profile picture, click on the camera icon.

 

 

This will open the image library. Click on “ADD IMAGE” to upload a photo from your computer.

 

 

Select the image you want to use. You can crop and rotate your image here, if needed. When you’re happy with it, click “INSERT IMAGE.”

 

 

You’ve updated your profile picture.

 

Banner image

 

Click on the camera icon on the banner image. It will say “Update Banner” when you hover over it with your mouse.

 

 

This will bring you to the image library. Click on “ADD IMAGE” to upload a photo from your computer.

 

 

Select the image you want to use from your computer files. You can crop and rotate your image, if needed. When you’re happy with it, click “INSERT IMAGE.”

 

 

You’ve updated your banner!

 

Event title

 

To change your event title, click on the pencil icon beside your page title. Type the new title and click update.

 

 

Fundraising goal

 

You can update your fundraising goal at any time. Just click on the pencil icon next to your fundraising goal.

 

 

Type your new goal into the box and click update.

 

Page text

 

To edit your page text, click on the pencil icon beside the donation box.

 

 

This will bring up text-editing tools. Here you can change the font size, colour, and text alignment. You can also bold, italicize, underline or add bullets to your text. Here we’ve changed the first sentence, increasing the font size and changing the text colour to violet.

 

 

How to invite people to your event

 

From your dashboard, click on email.

 

 

This will bring up a draft email that you can send to your guests.

 

 

Simply type or paste your guest’s emails into the recipients box separated by commas or spaces.

You can then customize the email subject line or text as you like. Change the font size, colour, and text alignment. Bold, italicize, underline or add bullets to your text. Here we changed the title of the event and fundraising goal to violet and bold to make it stand out.

 

When you’re happy with your changes, click send.

 

 

 

How to share your page on social media

 

It’s easy to share your page on your social media channels. Just click on one of the share buttons.

 

 

It will load up an update with your page link and information from your Big Social event.

 

 

Just add the text for your update and click post or share.

 

How to get your page link

 

If you prefer to share the link directly in email or on your social media channel, you can copy the link to your Big Social page by right-clicking your page name in your dashboard.

 

 

 

How to change the date of your event

 

You can change the date of your event at any time. Just go to your profile page and type your new date into the last field. Click the “Update” button and you’re done.

 

Note: This change will not show up on your event page. To add your event date to your event page, add it into your event title. See below for instructions on how to do that.

 

 

To add your event date to your page, you need to edit your page title. Click on the pencil icon beside your page title. Add the date to the title and click update.

 

 

How to add a donation you received offline to your event, e.g. you received a cheque from someone

 

If you get a donation by cheque or cash, you can enter it in your dashboard so that the amount is counted toward your goal and so that the person can receive a tax receipt.

 

To enter a donation by cash or cheque, click “Enter Donation” in your dashboard Fundraise menu.

 

You’ll need to complete this form with all of the contact information for the donor and the donation amount and type.

 

 

Next you need to select whether to show this donor or not on your Big Social page. You can show their name (as entered in the form), a custom name you add here, or as an anonymous donor. You can also choose whether to show the amount or hide it.

 

 

When you’ve completed the form, click “Submit.”

 

This donation will now show on your page and count toward your goal. But it will show as pending under the donations tab of your dashboard. This is because all cash or cheque donations must be verified by CFCC.

 

 

Note: People who donate to your page using a credit card via the donation form will automatically receive a thank-you email. People who donate to you in person via cash or cheque will not. To send them a thank-you email, click on “Send thank you”

 

It will bring up a thank-you email you can send to this donor. You can customize this email using the formatting toolbar and change the font size, colour and alignment.

 

 

When you’re happy with your email, click send.

 

How is my event doing?

 

If you want to see how your event is doing, there are two tabs you can check: Donations and Reports.

 

Donations will show you all of the donations made on your event page. Reports will show you not just all the money you’ve raised, but how many views your page has, how many shares, etc.
